Swinburne's premier music ensemble, playing jazz, swing, pop, rock and more, on trumpets, trombones, saxophones, and rhythm instruments.

Description

Swinburne Stage Band follows the traditional Big Band line up of trumpets, trombones, saxophones and rhythm section comprising bass, percussion, guitar and piano.

We play all sorts of music from traditional Big Band jazz and swing
charts all the way through to arrangements of great pop songs.

We rehearse once per week on the Hawthorn Campus at 7pm in the George Building on the second floor, with the aim of having a great time and making great music. Depending on how we're going, opportunities for public gigs exist and will be pursued.

Sheet music and basic leads and amps and an electronic keyboard are all provided, so all you need to bring is your instrument, perhaps a music stand, and your best smile. The difficulty of charts varies widely so don't worry if you don't think you're a crash hot player; We don't believe you and we want you to come down anyway!

If you don't play a traditional big band instrument, don't let that put you off either. If you're keen we can accommodate you! And if you're not really a musician at all you're still more than welcome to sit in for all the fluffed notes, hijinks and music making that make rehearsals great!

Apart from rehearsals, and performances where possible, we aim to provide a few social gatherings for members throughout the year which may or may not include free pizza.
